Furnished with a high-resolution 35-inch Trinitron picture tube, the Sony KV-35V42 makes a fitting centerpiece for the enthusiast's home entertainment center. The screen, while not literally flat, is visually flat, which means the picture will maintain clarity from the center to the corners of the screen. The picture is also enhanced by a three-line digital comb filter, which separates the luminance (Y) and color (C) signals to improve resolution and give pictures more sparkle. Other video features include favorite channel preview, which lets the user sample up to five favorite channels without leaving the current channel, and custom video modes (vivid, standard, and movie) for particular types of programming. Viewers who can't stay put but hate to miss a favorite program will enjoy the favorite channel preview, as it lets users preview favorite stations without leaving the current one. The TV also appeals to compulsive surfers with its SpeedSurf rapid channel scanning, as well as its Extended Data Service, which delivers added programming information such as program lengths and times when provided by the cable or satellite service. The KV-35V42's convenient user extras are rounded out by a sleep timer (with 30-, 60-, and 90-minute settings), a parental control feature, a previous channel option, and adjustable brightness, color, hue, and sharpness sliders.
