I bought this system because it has everything I need. A powerful receiver with plenty of output connections and an iPhone/iPod dock connector. I noticed the difference immediately in the picture quality. The color enhancement was noticeable from the start. The audio sounds amazing. With 4 HDMI outputs I was able to hook up my xbox, ps3, and Tivo receiver with no problem. And I have an extra HDMI connector left over for another device. The speakers are light, small, and powerful. At 625W this baby really gives you the experience when it comes to playing games and movies. I hear things I would not normally hear with my old RCA surround sound system. When I play Modern Warfare 2 and I crank up the volume (when the wifes out of the house) I feel the bass of the explosions and gunfire.
I can hook up my iPhone 3GS and now my iPhone 4 with no issue. I can connect my 5th Gen iPod also. The receiver has a nice feature that allows you to display the iPhone/iPod screen and redirect track info to the receivers display. I can go through my artists and albums without having to walk up to my iPhone/iPod and see what artist/album/song is playing. The receiver clearly displays this information from 10 feet away. This is a nice convenience.
It's surreal! You really connect with the experience. I can hear people coming up behind me or running around the corner.
When I hook up the headphones (when the wife's at home) I still get an amazing surround sound experience. The receiver does an excellent job of simulating surround sound even with the headphones on. I got this bad boy for $375 and even at the current price $450 it's still a great deal when you factor in the Yamaha quality, free shipping, and zero tax. Don't go to Best Buy get it here at Amazon. It's definitely worth every penny.
