Product Description With just two satellites, a subwoofer and an A/V center, the compact CS-500 uses digital processing circuitry to simulate the effect of a larger, five-speaker home theater system. Each satellite employs dual magnetically shielded 2.5-inch high output woofers and a 0.75-inch magnetically shielded tweeter mated to an exclusive Klipsch Tractrix(R) Horn, a design that delivers genuine lifelike sound as well as produces more output using less energy. Klipsch is the only speaker manufacturer to utilize horn technology in all of its product lines. In fact, the cutting-edge research that drives the development of the company's leading movie cinema speakers is also applied to the CS-500. The down-firing subwoofer utilizes a powerful 6.5-inch woofer. Due to its compact size, this subwoofer can easily be hidden away while still delivering dramatic low-end effects. The A/V center features a built-in Class D amplifier that distributes 35 watts of power to each satellite and 100 watts of power to the subwoofer. It also includes Dolby(R) Virtual Speaker technology along with a progressive scan DVD player, an AM/FM tuner with 20 station presets and three auxiliary inputs. The CS-500 even has the ability to pass high-definition signals through a component output and can simplify all of the auxiliary input connections into a single convenient output to the TV. An easy-to-use universal IR remote control directs all system functions as well as those of the TV and other entertainment devices.

Works great September 5, 2010 navdawg (fl) Got this on a whim for the living room. Ended up setting it up in the bedroom temp and it is staying there. DVD players works great, sound is good and it is not to bulky. Gives me great sound and I have no issue controling volume from the bed.
cs-500 not worth the one star September 3, 2010 robin i bought this system less than two years ago. i have had to mail it back once because it would lock up/freeze. the replacement is no better. i have had problems with this product from day one and with only a one year warranty, i am hosed. to fix it, hoping that the fix will even work, they want me to pay another $175 for the product when i already paid $700 for it less than two years ago. The speakers are fantastic however. the system is a lemon, won't play dvds, makes this weird sound like a bad tape deck and won't work.
Amazing For $250 August 25, 2010 TRV Are you kidding me? For $250 this little system is awesome. The receiver has a DVD/CD player and AM/FM, the speakers sound great, and it was easy to set up. I know others have had problems with the DVD. Even if I do encounter problems and have to spend a few hundred dollars to get it repaired or to get a separate a DVD player, I'm still getting the great system at a deep, deep discount. It's in our master bedroom. Once my wife heard it, she asked if we could get a second system for our family room.
Mediocre August 25, 2010 R. E. VanderKlok (Grand Rapids, MI United States) The DVD player in this system is below average even if it has been updated. Menus don't work correctly, graphics are distorted, the DVD player freezes, etc. Pretty much anything that can go wrong will go wrong.
The remote is non-intuitive (channel up to skip DVD chapters?) and poorly designed.
While watching TV or a DVD, dialogue is barely audible while music is blaring.
If before I bought this system I knew how it would function, I would not have purchased this. I'm disappointed in this product.
Speakers are Great! DVD player needs improvement August 23, 2010 amazonfan I ordered this home theater system knowing that there may be some defects in the dvd player. but i was so tempted to get it because i knew it's a great bargain! (this set typically sells for $399 elsewhere). i also learned from other reviews that klipsch has a very good and responsive customer service center so i was less concerned and decided to give it a try.
The set arrived in a very well designed package. speakers were protected by cloth bags, a pair of white cloth glove was included for installation... set up was very easy and i completed mine in 10 mins with the help of the quick reference guide (vs. the manual)
In the first try the movie played well and the sound was great! on the second and third dvd the player started lagging. i kinda expected that so i was not too surprised. Going to call their customer service center tmr to see what they can do. hopefully a hassle-free exchange?
despite the defect of the dvd player, i still love the system, considering the affordable cost, i think this pair of speakers are the best ones you can get in this price range.
