2 out of 5 stars Design Flaw?   June 26, 2004

I had the same problem as another reviewer where the picture is blurry for the first 15 minutes (I mean totally unviewable). This is my second TV of the same model. Both went bad with the same problem after about 2 years. Nice while it lasts, but it should last a lot longer! Time to step up to a small LCD TV.

1 out of 5 stars Nice but no cigar   January 27, 2002

GE had the right idea but... The size is great, the style is good, the picture (tube) is better than average, but the tuner stinks! In order to get good reception you have to hold the antenna. I tried 3 different units and it was the same story with all of them. I really wanted it to work because it was exactly what I was looking for, except for the part about not being able to watch it with out getting a headache.

1 out of 5 stars This one broke after 4 years of use.   December 6, 2000

This one originally worked pretty well for the purpose being able to watch TV while working on my computer. I had a set top box connected to the antenna input and was able to watch cable if I tuned it to channel 3.

After 4 years of use it developed a problem in which the picture was blurry and made sizzling sounds for about 20 minutes each time the unit was turned on (when completely cooled off before turning on).

I brought it to the repair place and they fixed it but the problem still occurred, but after being repaired the blurry picture only lasted for about 5 minutes instead of 20 minutes. They fixed it again a 2nd time, and the picture did still appear a little blurry the first minute or so, but I didn't return it and eventually the problem went away.

Now, suddenly, less than 2 months after it was repaired, the unit is completely dead. I'm gonna get the repair place to work on it again, since they have a 60 day warrantee on their repair work.

Anyway, while I did get use out of it, and it might be possible the repair place can still fix it again, I'm not happy that the unit broke after only 4 years. This seems a bit soon for me. Most other TVs have lasted much longer, but maybe I've just been lucky until now. My impression is that a TV should last at least 7 or 8 years.

I'm interested if anyone else has found this TV to only last for a relatively short lifespan. Keep in mind that although this is a portable, it has been kept stationary on my desk, so it has not been subject to any wear and tear normally associated with portables.

1 out of 5 stars Disappointment   June 25, 2000

Tied to place this TV in my kitchen to replace another TV. Could not get any decent reception, even though the location worked well for an older GE TV. Antenna is on the top so if you want to place under cupboard it it difficult to move.

1 out of 5 stars NOT CABLE COMPATIBLE - BE AWARE   June 6, 2000

Unfortunately Amazon.com does not make this very important point that this TV is not cable compatible beyond channels 2-12. However, they were extremely helpful with its return! Great customer service!
